Also attached a picture of a lady in front of the grave. Her name is Kim and she works at the Highgate Cemetery. Very knowledgeable in history and Monumental studies and of great assistance to M. Wy. Grave of Issachar Zacharie MD(1827-1900), First Grand Supreme Ruler of the Masonic Order of the Secret Monitor within the British Empire. Grave is located in the East End of Highgate Cemetery in the London, Borough of Islington. English born Jew and podiatrist. He was President Lincoln’s chiropodist, political confidante, and special emissary. Among other things, Zacharie involved himself in helping Abraham Lincoln secure the Jewish vote. His enigmatic role as friend, emissary and politician a mostly forgotten piece of American History, should be appropriately remembered on this day. Dr. Issachar Zacharie brought the Order to England when he returned from America after serving as Chiropodist-General with the United States Army during the Civil War. The English Grand Council of the Order was subsequently constituted on 17th June 1887 and Dr. Zacharie became the First Grand Supreme Ruler.
The name of the Order, at that time was ““The Order of the Secret Monitor or the Brotherhood of David and Jonathan, of the British Empire”.
